Sabine Hertveldt joined IFC in 2006 and has led the IFC Better Work team since July , 2016. Sabine’s passion to improve labour standards goes back to when she worked as an employment  and labour lawyer at Allen & Overy LLP in Brussels and London from 1999 until 2003.

Between 2006 and 2011, Sabine co-authored the World Bank Group Doing Business Reports and led the research on child labour laws, bringing the Doing Business “employing workers indicators” closer in line with ILO core labour standards. In more recent roles, Sabine has advised IFC clients about the regulatory and policy environment, and currently works as part of IFC’s global Manufacturing, Agriculture and Services department to advise IFC clients on workforce, gender, and productivity challenges, including in collaboration with ILO.

She graduated from Columbia University Law School in NYC (Fulbright scholar), holds Law degrees from Ghent Law School (Belgium) and Nancy Law School (France), and worked on ICSID investor-state arbitration at White & Case LLP in Washington, DC, in 2004 and 2005.
