Through its activities in the garment sector, Better Work Indonesia has helped participating firms improve working conditions by raising levels of compliance with national labour law and international standards. Through its convening function among key stakeholders, the programme has provided inputs and data on national labour policy in several areas.
The learning part of our process takes place through advisory factory visits, training and industry seminars.
Our innovative training courses for factory representatives support and reinforce the advisory work through detailed instruction on how to tackle problem areas and improve workplace relations. Examples of this include training on managing health and safety in the workplace, enabling worker and management representatives to diagnose and improve their own grievance mechanisms, and educating supervisors on how to manage workers and training on setting up proper human resources systems, to name a few.

A certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower (Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, UU No.13 2003, KepMenaker No.Kep-75/MEN/2002, Permenaker No.Per.01/MEN/1989, Permen No.4/MEN/87, KEPDIRJEN Nomor : 47/PPK & K3/VIII/2015). To apply this training factory should be use package; full 15 days (including four-day electricity on job training) Participant is a person responsible in electrical system maintenance in the factory, with minimum requirement graduated from Diploma Major of Technics. This training using blended method with 14 days virtual and 4 day field practical.
This is a certified training in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower. The training duration is 6 days with one day field practice.The training fee will cover for snacks and meals for the training duration, stationeries, training module, training simulation materials and certificate from the Ministry of Manpower ( not including accommodation and transportation).

Management System Training
As a continuation of the Supervisory Skills Training (SST), Better Work develops Managing People Course which is a more advance course of SST. This is based on feedback and suggestions received from the factories for the BW to develop course with specific target for midle and top management level. The course covers topics such as type of management styles, cultural dimensions, listening skills and feedback techniques, managing works, and so forth. The course is a 2 days duration.
The ToT Supervisory Skills Training (SST) is an offline class training with participant maximum of 20 participants per-factory. The training targets supervisor to manager-middle management which have been participated in the previous SST in the factory to improve their managing skills, professionalism and understanding of their roles. The three (3) days will give current and aspiring supervisors and managers the tools they need to replicate and transform the workplace through improved supervision of and communication with workers. At the end of the course, participants will be more knowledgeable and adept in performing their supervision duties in areas such as motivating the workforce, maintaining discipline, delegating tasks and providing constructive feedback.
This is an introduction on the topic of discrimination at workplace, through elaboration on the concept, types, parameters, and relevant regulations. The module aims for participants to be able to Understand the definitions, concepts, forms and legal basis of anti-discrimination in the workplace, understand the parameters of non-discrimination and their application in the workplace, able to identify potential discriminatory actions in the workplace, and know the roles and actions that can be taken to prevent discriminatory practices in the workplace For each factory, to registered minimum 2 (two) participants per batch.
The boiler certified officer training level 2 is the requirement training from the ministry of manpower and from the factory need. The objective form this training are :Improved knowledge, skills and the technique of operating boiler safely, correctly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in the field of Occupational Health and Safety OSH standard norms in the workplace Understand the procedure, maintenance, checking and testing, monitoring; and recommend necessary actions for management to ensure a safe system at the workplace.
Electricity K3 Technician Training is for electricity technicians involved in the planning, installation, and maintenance of electricity in the field of electricity for more than 2 years, held based on the Decree of the Director General of Industrial Relations and Employment Supervision No. KEP 311/BW/2002 concerning Certification of Occupational Safety and Health Competencies Electricity, that electricity contains potential. The technician entrusted with duties and responsibilities in the work of installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of electrical installations must meet the requirements for the Safety and Health Competency Electricity as evidenced by certificates and licenses for the safety and health of electricity. Targeted Participants: Electrical Officer in the factories.
OSH Fire Safety Expert (Level A) Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower(Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, UU No.13 2003, KepMenaker No.Kep-186/MEN/1999,).
With this training, participants will be equipped with not only practical knowledge on addressing fire risks at workplace, but also skills to conduct risk assessment, planning and design the necessary fire safety system along with the cost analysis.
Three (3) days Certified First Aid Officer Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower, accordance with the Permenakertrans RI No. Per.15/Men/VIII/2008 which stated that all enterprises must assigned trained and certified first aider officers with the composition 1: 100 workers depending on the nature of the business. Participant with minimum requirement graduated from Junior High School. A upon completion of the training, participants will be able to: 1. Implement first aid response in the workplace 2. Provide emergency first aid measures, and maintain the conditions before the arrival of medical team 3. Organize and maintain first aid facilities and resources in the workplace 4. Draft and submit a first aid activity report to the factory management team. The classroom and practice in classroom/simulation will be highly considered the COVID-19 health protocol and policies including negative antigen test result is requirement for the candidate participants/trainer and organizer and using personal protective equipment during training, social distancing etc. Please make sure that your candidates are healthy before and during training. The BWI training health protocol will be available before training.
This is a mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower, with 12 days training duration Including 1 day observation using video. General OSH Expert Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower (UU No. 1/1970, and Permen No. 4/MEN/1987 art. 2). Participant with minimum requirement graduated from Diploma.
Safe and healthy working conditions in the workplace is one of company paramedic and doctor roles to implementing OHS aspects and values in addition to assisting company organizations in implementing OHS programs, especially in the field of company hygiene and improving the health status of the workforce.The objective of this training would be, that upon completion of the training, participants will be able to: Improve their knowledge and practical skills in implementing OHS aspects and values in addition to assisting company organizations in implementing OHS programs, especially in the field of company hygiene and improving the health status of the workforce. Support and improve the company’s K3 performance by providing medical personnel who have the competence and qualifications to identify hazards in the work environment, control potential hazards and be able to solve various K3 problems faced in the company’s environment. Duration of this training is 5 days with full virtual method.
In accordance with the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia No.M/5/HK.04.00/VII/2019 regarding the implementation of mandatory competency certification for positions in the field of Human Resource Management. In this regard, the Ministry of Manpower as a technical guidance agency in the field of HR Management will impose mandatory competency certification for workers who occupy positions in the field for Compliance/Non HR management 2 (two) years after the Circular Letter is issued.
Five (5) days of Labour Norm Expert (KNK) Training is a certified training required by the Ministry of Manpower based on Kepmen 257/2014. The training aims to encourage factories to understand and have the skill to support their company in implementing labour work based on Indonesian laws and regulations and to understand in design the risk assessment for the company and ensure company to maintain compliance standards, including supporting labour inspection in implementing labour norm in factory level. Participant with minimum requirement graduated senior high school (SMU). The Virtual Training is conducted virtually to give access to participants to join the training remotely and to prevent gathering more than 10 people in one place, applies participatory approach and adult learning paradigm with Indonesian language.
19 days of OSH Fire Safety Expert DCBA Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower. With this training, participants will be equipped with not only practical knowledge on addressing fire risks at workplace, but also skills to conduct risk assessment, planning and design the necessary fire safety system along with the cost analysis. Training methods combine 17 days virtual (group discussions, group assignment) and 1 day field practice. Pre and post training examination will be directly conducted by Ministry of Manpower official.
K3 Work Environment expert is a K3 expert with special competencies certified by the Ministry of Manpower will conducted 7 days. So that the measurement and control of the work environment regulated in this regulation can be carried out by K3 Work Environment Experts. The Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia ratified Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2018 concerning Occupational Health and Safety in the Work Environment in April 2018. Minister of Manpower Regulation number 5 of 2018 replaces Minister of Labor Regulation Number 7 of 1964 concerning Requirements for Health, Hygiene, and Lighting in the Workplace because Permenaker 5 of 2018 also covers the Application of Hygiene and Sanitation in the workplace.

As one of the country which ratified the ILO Convention no. 87 on Freedom of Association, Indonesia government guarantees the rights to form, join, and engage in activities both in trade union and/ or employers’ association. The training will highlight more on the rights for workers to form, join and conduct activities as trade union, good understanding about Freedom of Association from both management and Trade union side will serve as a strong basis to achieve sound and constructive industrial relations at the workplace. Objective of the training: 1. Understanding the international conventions and national regulations on Trade Union rights in Indonesia 2. Understanding the requirement for forming and dissolving trade union organization 3. Understanding the rights and obligation of the trade union 4. Understanding dispute resolution mechanism.
Targeted participants: -Representatives of trade union -Representative of management (HR, compliance).
The Effective Grievance Mechanism Training aims to enable management and worker representatives to recognize the benefits of effective grievance mechanism at factory level. It will develop the capacity of worker and management representatives to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of existing grievance systems in their factories and introduce tools and approaches to improve the systems. This a one half day training will contributes to help both management and workers’ representatives, including trade union, to have an early detection of possible workplace issues that may lead to industrial relations issues when failed to be handled properly. The Training will be conducted online and applies participatory approach and adult learning paradigm with Indonesian language.
Internal Audit System Training is one (1) day virtual training follow up from Basic Document Control training. This training very related with developing SOP and how the internal auditor monitor the SOP implementation. The training will support participants to conduct internal audit in the factories, how to monitor an effective document control system in the workplace. An upon completion of this training participants will be able to understand effective internal audit system, how to control documents efficiently and easily for audit purpose, provides guideline to conduct internal audit in the factories. Who must participate: Document Controller Compliance Staff HR Staff AK3 General, who should have attended the Basis Document Control Training to be able continue attending this training.
Through this course, participants will improve their understanding of different approaches to IR-centred negotiation and more effective management of workplace relations. Participants will gain context- specific negotiation skills that can be applied in their factory, as well as practical guidance on managing conflicts and disputes for improved industrial harmony.
Five days of OSH Management System Training is a certified training required by the Ministry of Manpower since 1996 (UU No.1/1970, and PP No. 50/2012). T The training is aim to encourage factories to apply systematic approach on occupational safety and health. OSH Management System Training equips the participants on knowledge and skills to identify and manage risks in the workplace in a systematic manner to ensure the creation of a safe, productive and efficient working environment. Participant with minimum requirement graduated from Diploma and hold the General OSH Expert Certificate.
The RESPECT Training of Trainers (ToT) aims to equip manager and worker the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct sexual harassment prevention training in the factories. Over a period of two days, participants will increase their awareness on sexual harassment, knowledge of workplace policies and processes to prevent and address harassment, and basic facilitation skills.
This training programme will equip workers and employers at the workplace level with tools to successfully implement their knowledge and skill in management system in to their company/factory. This Training have several objective: Partcipants will befamiliar with several root cause methods, Tried two methods to get to the root of the problem: 5 Whys and Fishbone, Knowing how to choose the most suitable solution. For each factory, to register minimum of 2 (two) participants per batch.
The training consist 2 modules:
Module 1 : Sexual Harassments in the Workplace Awareness
Module 2 : Grievance Mechanism for Sexual Harassments in the Workplace Cases. Participant will have knowledge and understanding in work place power relation as one of cause of sexual harassments in the workplace, the definition, and impact including the policy/law related with sexual harassments, and the effective grievance mechanism to handle the cases in the factory.
SST has been proven to increase the productivity of lines supervised by trained female supervisors, as it reduces the time needed to reach production targets, resulting in a 22 % increase in productivity.

Training of Trainers on Supervisory Skills Training aims to form a pool of trainer to disseminate supervisory skills training at factory level. This is a 3 full day training. Participants must have attended the full duration of SST previously and have experiences in delivering training.
After workers completed this training course they will:
One day training for factory aims participants understand the latest national regulation on wage(PERMEN No. 01/017) and able to implement it in their respective workplace. Functional wage management system with proper wage classification based on the four criteria required by wage management system guideline.
The two-day virtual training will cover topics on Wage Structure and Scale which will allow participants to have a better understanding on the government regulations and requirements on wage structure and scale, to have the ability to formulate in measure to implement wage structure and scale, as well as to have ability to identify and recommend the strategies in building wage structure and scale and practice simulation of the formulation and implementation of the wage structure and scale.
This one-day training covers topics on Wage Strategy Based on Productivity which will allow participants to have a better understanding on wage management system particularly in skills matrix, to have the ability in preparation and formulation technique of skills matrix, as well as the ability in correlate all related matters into productivity indicators as measurement/assessment tools.
The overall objective of the training activity is to equip the employers and worker representatives (including trade unions) representatives in building workplace cooperation through the committee by recognize the general knowledge of role and function of the LKSB/committee and how to use the grievance mechanism to help the management team in nurturing and building a better social dialogue, which will lead to better improvement.
