Better Work Jordan works to strengthen the capacity of tripartite constituents – government, workers and employers – to fulfill their mandates in promoting decent work outcomes. As a first for Better Work, Better Work Jordan tested successfully an innovative labour inspection secondment programme to build the capacity of labour inspectors to conduct high quality inspections. In recent years, the programme has also worked with other technical teams within the ILO, including experts on occupational safety and health (OSH), to equip Ministry of Labor (MoL) inspectors with the tools, skills and knowledge to undertake factory assessments using Better Work methodology. This initiative resulted in the establishment of a dedicated Better Work Unit at the MoL tasked with conducting inspections in the garment, plastic, chemical and engineering sectors jointly with Better Work Jordan staff.
The learning part of our process takes place through advisory factory visits, training and industry seminars.
Our innovative training courses for factory representatives support and reinforce the advisory work, through detailed instruction on how to tackle challenges and improve workplace relations. Examples of this include training on managing health and safety in the workplace, enabling worker and management representatives to diagnose and improve their own grievance mechanisms, educating supervisors on how to manage workers and training on setting up proper human resources systems, and raising awareness on ways to address sexual harassment issue and ways to prevent it in the workplace.

Good leaders know how to do the right thing, this training aims to empower participants to take the first steps in a leadership role.

This consultancy intends to increase the capacity of mental health focal points in Jordanian garment factories, so that they can conduct mental health training for garment workers and be able to:

Workers Training The Personal Hygiene training introduces participants to how germs spread and how to prevent their transmission. The module also talks about the importance of hand washing, including how to properly wash hands to prevent the spread of germs and when hand washing is necessary. Additional tips are provided for healthy dental hygiene and hygiene in the toilet and kitchen. Specific tips will be provided for female workers on proper menstrual hygiene as well as how to better manage their monthly symptoms. Lastly, some tips will address common myths and misconceptions that may negatively affect women’s health or promote unhygienic behaviors. The training duration is 2.5 hours.
Workers Training This training is provided for management & workers committee members at the factory to enhance the PICC efficiency, which will improve Social Dialogue in the factory. The training duration is 2.5 hours.
The training covers general information about Jordan, culture and religion, unified contract, benefits, overtime, social security, leaves, resignation & termination, passport & other documents, facilities of dorms, Food & transportation, communication process with home, money transfer, emergency , harassment, and importance of savings.
ILO ACTRAV material – Participants will learn how they can contribute to and benefit from productivity improvement in the factory through enhanced social dialogue, compliance with labour standards, and improved working conditions.
The objective of the training is to improve workers’ sexual and reproductive health-related knowledge and behaviours regarding family planning, menstrual hygiene/abortion/unwanted pregnancy, and menstrual hygiene.

The Sexual Harassment Training has four levels as following:
A. Factory Owner/General Manager introductory meeting : The purpose of this session is to introduce SHP training and get high-level management support. The SHP Model Policy is shared as a basis for factories to adopt a policy. The SHP Kit is also shared for distribution among factory departments and to launch a SHP campaign. This Meeting is taking 1-2 hours.
B. Middle manager training: This training is for managers directly responsible for developing and enforcing sexual harassment prevention policies. Information is provided to help these managers identify and address sexual harassment, including information on how to conduct interviews, impartial investigation tactics, and confidentiality issues. This training is taking 2 – 3 hours.
C. Supervisor training: This training focuses on rights and responsibilities regarding sexual harassment of factory supervisors. Information is provided to help supervisors protect their workers from sexual harassment and avoid inappropriate behaviour themselves. The training includes a step by step guide on how to proceed with allegations of sexual harassment.
D. Worker training :This training focuses on the rights and responsibilities of workers regarding sexual harassment. Workers are provided information on how to prevent and address sexual harassment as well as how to seek help in such matters.
This is a 2 day course for factory trainers to become familiar with how to train the Supervisory Skills Training in a facilitative way.
This 3-day course enables participants to gain valuable leadership and management skills to Further enhance dialogue between the company and its employees.

We provide a comprehensive assessment to determine each factory’s overall progress on meeting international core labour standards and national labour laws. Assessment findings are coupled with the factory’s own diagnosis of the condition inside the enterprise to provide a fair and well-rounded picture of success, demonstrated progress and areas for continued improvement.
Public reporting is the publication of factory compliance and noncompliance with 29 selected issues assessed by Better Work. Factories are identified by name along with their compliance findings, and the information is available to the public on the Better Work Transparency Portal.
