Discussion Paper 12: Is There an Efficiency Case For International Labour Standards?

3 Oct 2013

This paper, by authors Drusilla Brown, Rajeev Dehejia and Raymond Robertson, presents a comprehensive compilation of findings regarding the efficiency case for labour standards from Better Factories Cambodia. Building on data presented in Better Work Discussion Papers No. 4 and No. 6, this work shows that Cambodian factories with higher compliance rates were more likely to survive the financial crisis of 2008. Controlling for any other possible explanatory factor, the empirical results confirm that the improvements in survival probability were caused by the assessment and remediation model implemented by Better Factories Cambodia.
