An estimated 218 million boys and girls work as child labourers around the world. Fortunately, in the garment sector in Indonesia there has been a significant improvement over the last 20 years in ensuring children under the age of 15 are not employed. The key challenge has been supporting those youth aged between 15 and 17. The law is explicit in protecting the rights of these young workers and ensuring that their working environment is safe.
This guideline is to assist employers in developing systems to prevent the employment of workers that are younger than 15 and to better support workers between 15 and 17 in the workplace.
