Sarah Thomas is the Better Work Communications Officer based in the ILO Headquarters in Geneva. Sarah manages internal and external communications for the programme, including Better Work’s relationship with international and national media, global constituents, and liaising on communications with parent organizations, ILO and IFC. Sarah joined Better Work after working as a journalist, covering women’s rights and immigration issues for numerous international media outlets. She also has served as an editor of a U.S.-based newspaper and edited book-length projects, including a recent nonfiction anthology on occupational health and safety and organizational culture change.
Sarah taught writing and research as an instructor in Columbia University’s Undergraduate Writing Program and worked as a consultant in the university’s Writing Center. Previously, she was a publicist for global publishing houses, Penguin and Macmillan, where she managed publicity campaigns for books, including those focused on human rights, wartime history, social justice, and women’s issues. Sarah holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing from Columbia University and a BA from Tulane University.
