Supporting Egypt’s labour inspection system through SLARIE

1 Oct 2020

Building on efforts of other previous and ongoing ILO projects, the SLARIE project has recently started to work with the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower’s Labour and OSH Inspection Departments. This project aims to support Egypt’s labour inspection system for more effective implementation of relevant labour legislation across the country.

A first assessment has been conducted with local partners across five governorates, touching on ways to better advise and report on working conditions in compliance with relevant labour legislation, with a special focus on fundamental principles and rights at work.

Initial results have been discussed with the Ministry of Manpower, and a capacity development plan is in the works for the coming months. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower’s labour inspection tools and the procedural manual has been revised and partially updated to include recent changes in labour laws, currently pending the government’s approval.

The ILO will also provide technical assistance for the upgrading of the digital inspection system already in place across Egypt throughout the project. Also, work on the improvement of reporting levels and the creation of an interactive interface, allowing employers to access inspection results and promoting a swift interaction with national inspectorates are in SLARIE’s pipeline.
