Better Work Lesotho and its partners celebrated for the first time World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The event was attended by roughly 2000 garment factory workers and aimed to raise awareness on the importance of safety and health in the workplace, with an emphasis on the need for effective occupational safety and health (OSH) committees, worker protection and chemical safety. Activities for workers included a fun walk and quizzes. In addition, through song and drama performances, workers shared with each other their knowledge of OSH issues, safety and health risks they have experienced and how OSH issues are handled in the workplace. The Lesotho Department of Labour and the five sectoral unions were actively involved in organization of the event, which was sponsored by Levi Strauss & Co.
