Better Work is a partnership between the United Nations’ International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. We understand that lasting, positive change can happen only when every participant in the global supply chain supports – and benefits from – the work we do. We mobilize people and institutions to work across individual agendas to reach consensus on improving working conditions.
We convene employers, factory owners, unions, global brands and governments at the local, national and global levels to catalyze actions that ensure workers’ rights. Through our global, university-led research, and by sharing our on-the-ground experience, we help shape policies and practices well beyond the countries in which we work, influencing governments, brands and opinion leaders to elevate improving working conditions to a top priority.
The International Labour Organization (ILO)
Founded in 1919, the International Labour Organization is the United Nations agency for the world of work. We bring together governments, employers and workers to drive a human-centred approach to the future of work through employment creation, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue. The unique tripartite structure of the ILO ensures that the views of the social partners are closely reflected in labour standards and in shaping policies and programmes.
