Supervisory Skills

Learn more about the Supervisory Skills Training

The most popular Better Work course, SST training is specially designed for production managers and supervisors who supervise the production workforce.

Independent research has found that where supervisors are trained by Better Work, production lines are as much as 22% more productive, as workers reach production targets more quickly.

This training will give current and aspiring supervisors the tools they need to transform the workplace through improved supervision of and communication with workers. At the end of the course, participants will be more knowledgeable and adept in performing their supervision duties in areas such as motivating the workforce, maintaining discipline, delegating tasks and providing constructive feedback.

Duration 3 days

BWI understand that supervisory skill plays important roles for a factory. The Supervisory Skills Training targets supervisors-middle management in the factory to improve their managing skills, professionalism and understanding of their roles.  Duration of training is 3 days for maximum of 30 participants.

Managing people

As a continuation of the Supervisory Skills Training (SST), Better Work develops Managing People Course which is a more advanced course of SST. This is based on feedback and suggestions received from the factories for the BW to develop course with specific target for middle and top management level. The course covers topics such as type of management styles, cultural dimensions, listening skills and feedback techniques, managing works, and so forth.

Duration 2 days

General OSH Expert Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower (Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, Permen No.4/MEN/87 pasal 2).

With this training, participants will have an understanding of the general principles of OSH management systems, including Indonesian laws and regulations on OSH; Understand OSH management systems including the roles and functions of an OSH expert in the factory. And skills to implement  OSH management system in the factory.

Duration of training is 12 days (including one day exercise on factory observation).

Minimum requirement for participant education background graduated from Diploma.

Successful participants will be granted:

1.       Certificate issued by Ministry of Manpower

2.       Letter of Appoinment (SKP) issued by Ministry of Manpower

3.       Licensed issued by Ministry of Manpower

Certified Fire Safety Expert Training

OSH Fire Safety Expert (Level A) Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower(Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, UU No.13 2003, KepMenaker No.Kep-186/MEN/1999,).

With this training, participants will be equipped with not only practical knowledge on addressing fire risks at workplace, but also skills to conduct risk assessment, planning and design the necessary fire safety system along with the cost analysis.

The objective of this training would be, as follows:

1. Participants understand the general principles of Fire Protection Systems, including  smoke control system, fire  early warning system and explosive risk prevention  in garment industries in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations on Fire Protection requirements.
2. Participants have the required skills to conduct Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Internal Audit programs in work place areas.
3. Participants have the required skills to design and propose cost analysis of Fire Protection System Implementation to minimize  fire loss in Garment Industry.
4. Participants have the required skills to evaluate Existing Fire Protection System in work place areas.
5. Gain information on relevant Fire Safety Issues.

Duration of training is 12 days (including one day fire simulation and one day exercise on factory observation).

Minimum requirement for participant education background graduated from Diploma.

Successful participants will be granted:

1. Certificate issued by Ministry of Manpower
2. Letter of Appointment (SKP) issued by Ministry of Manpower
3. Licensed issued by Ministry of Manpower

OSH Electrical Expert Training

OSH Electrical Expert Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower (Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, UU No.13 2003, KepMenaker No.Kep-75/MEN/2002, Permenaker No.Per.01/MEN/1989, Permen No.4/MEN/87, KEPDIRJEN Nomor : 47/PPK & K3/VIII/2015).

The overall targeted participants for this training will be for BWI partner factories, specifically nominated participants should be the person responsible in electrical system maintenance in the factory.

Upon completing the training, it is expected that the participants will have:

1. Improved knowledge and deeper skills in applying Electrical OSH standard norms in the workplace
2. Ability to coach and supervise implementation of Electrical OSH standard norms in the workplace
3. Improved knowledge and skills in electrical installations, usage, modification, maintenance, checking and testing, monitoring; and recommend necessary actions for management to ensure safe electrical system at the workplace.

Duration of training 12 days (including one day electricity simulation and one day exercise on factory observation) and participants need to submit the OJT (On Job Training) Paper within 2 weeks after the 12 days training in class to Ministry on Manpower.

Minimum requirement for participant education background graduated from Diploma.

Successful participants will be granted:

1. Certificate issued by Ministry of Manpower
2. Letter of Appointment (SKP) issued by Ministry of Manpower
3. Licensed issued by Ministry of Manpower

Occupational Safety and Health Management System

This is a four-day training required by the Ministry of Manpower since 1996, aiming to encourage factories to apply systematic approach on occupational safety and health. OSH management system training equips the participants on knowledge and skills to identify and manage risks in the workplace in a systematic manner to ensure the creation of a safe, productive and efficient working environment.

Duration 4 days

First aid officer training

First Aid Officer Training is a certified and mandatory training by the Ministry of Manpower The training in accordance with the Permenakertrans RI No. Per.15/Men/VIII/2008.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

1. Implement first aid response in the workplace
2. Provide emergency first aid measures, and maintain the conditions before the arrival of medical team
3. Organize and maintain first aid facilities and resources in the workplace
4. Draft and submit first aider activity report to the factory management team.

Duration of training is 3 days.

Minimum requirement for participant education background graduated from Junior High School.

Successful participants will be granted:

1. Certificate issued by Ministry of Manpower
2. Licensed issued byDinas
3. Book of First Aid Officer issued by Dinas

Workplace Cooperation and Communication

Effective workplace communication is essential in ensuring harmonious workers- management relations, and a productive environment for business to prosper.

By taking this important course, participants will develop a robust understanding of the importance of workplace communication through active learning and practice with different communication techniques –all of which can be directly applied in their factory. Key sessions include the essentials of workplace cooperation; what makes effective communication; common barriers; communication styles; and building effective systems for communication.

Duration 1,5 days

Workplace Cooperation Training is part of BWI training to promote effective industrial relations at workplace. The objective is to help both management and union/workers representatives to build constructive and productive dialogues in handling workplace issues. The training is designed in an interactive and participatory manner, as with BWI training approach, making use of case studies, role plays, and group discussions to enable participants to exercise real workplace experiences.

Trade union training

Trade union is an important social partner in creating sound and effective industrial relations at workplace, however they need to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them in representing the workers’ rights and interests at the workplace. Using the ILO standardized module, the trade union administration training covers topic on legal basis of trade union, roles and functions, financial management, organizational development and leadership. This is a two-day training, targeting active committee members/leaders of trade union at factory level.

Duration 2 days

Financial literacy training

The financial literacy training aims to raise awareness and understanding amongst workers particularly in garment sector on how to manage their income and household budget effectively. This is due to the rampant cases where workers are trapped by debts and loan sharks because of the poor income management.

Disability Equality Training

The Indonesian government has launched a regulation for the enterprises to employ at least 1% persons with disability (PwD) from the total workforce. Better Work Indonesia offers the Disability Equality Training (DET) because BWI considers the disability equality issues as more than a matter of compliance to the laws, but recognizes this as an opportunity to create awareness on greater inclusion in the garment sector. The training is conducted as 2 days training, targeting supervisors and managers.

Duration 2 days

Internal Auditor of OSH Management System

Internal Auditor of OSH Management System Training is a certified training by the Ministry of Manpower (Undang-Undang No.1 Tahun 1970, PP No.50 2012).

The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Management System includes the organizational structure, planning, responsibility, implementation, procedures, processes and resources that are required for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining the safety and health policies in order to control the risks associated with activities working and to establish a workplace that is safe, efficient and productive.

Enterprises that employ 100 people or more and/or having potential danger posed by the characteristics of the material process of production that can lead to accidents such as explosions, fires, pollution and work-related diseases are required to apply an OSH Management System.

Duration of training 4 days.

Minimum requirement for participant education background graduated from Diploma and hold the General OSH Expert Certificate.

Successful participants will be granted:

Managing People Skills Training

As a continuation of the Supervisory Skills Training (SST), Better Work develops Managing People Course which is a more advance course of SST. Respectful Workplace (RESPECT)

The training aims to promote respectful culture at work, to create a work environment that is respectful, safe and free from inappropriate behaviours. The Training of Trainers will train the factory team (minimum 4 persons, comprising of management and workers representatives) on sexual harassment prevention, concept of sexual harassment, prevention policy and procedures, and report handling. In addition to this, the trainers will receive training on facilitation skills to prepare the trainers in conducting follow up training at the factory. Duration for this training is 2 (two) days.
