Better Work Bangladesh: Our Training Courses

The most popular Better Work course, SST training is specially designed for production managers and supervisors who supervise the production workforce.

At the end of the course, participants will be more knowledgeable and adept in performing their supervision duties in areas such as motivating the workforce, maintaining discipline, delegating tasks and providing constructive feedback.

Participants: Supervisors, Line chiefs and Production Managers

Duration: Three days

The Participation Committee (PC) drives improvement in the workplace by ensuring workers and employers communicate and work together to address workplace issues. This training helps the participants recognize the goals of the Better Work Service Model and the PC function within this. Participants will be able to identify the roles and responsibilities of management and worker representatives in the PC and get to the root cause and address non compliances through dialogue.

Participants: PC members both man­agements and workers

Duration: Two days

This training provides an overview of ways in which workplace cooperation can be established in factories, including developing internal dispute resolution mechanisms to address and find a solution to grievances.

After completing this training participants will under­stand:

♦ The importance of effective workplace communication

♦ Grievance Mechanisms

♦ Barriers to good workplace cooperation and the strategies to overcome barriers

♦ How to develop a plan to monitor and implement improvements to workplace cooperation

Participants: PC Members and Mid-level Man­agement

Duration: One day

This training is intended to support middle managers or human resource managers prevent and address sexual harassment, including information on how to conduct interviews, impartial investigation tactics, and confidentiality issues.

By the end of the training participants will:

♦ Understand what sexual harassment is, the forms of sexual harassment and how to identify it

♦ Understand some of the reasons for sexual harassment in garment factories worldwide

♦ Understand how sexual harassment impacts workers

♦ Know the steps to take when dealing with cases of sexual harassment

Participants: Production Managers, HR and Compli­ance Officers

Duration: Half day

This training focuses on rights and responsibilities re­garding sexual harassment of supervisors. Information is provided to help supervisors protect themselves, their workers from sexual harassment and avoid in­decent behaviour themselves. The training includes a step by step guide on how to proceed with allegations of sexual harassment.

After completing this training participants will:

♦ Understand their rights

♦ Understand what sexual harassment is, the forms of sexual harassment and how to identify it in their line

♦ Differentiate between different types of sexual harassment

♦ Distinguish harassing behavior

♦ Understand sexual harassment policy and know the steps to take when dealing with cases of sexual harassment

This training focuses on rights and responsibilities regarding sexual harassment. Workers are provided information on how to prevent and address sexual harassment, as well as contacts for local referrals and hotlines for help in such matters.

After completing this training participants will:

♦ Know the steps to take in case of sexual harassment

♦ Participants: Workers, including PC & Safety Committee members

Welfare Officers play a vital role in establishing a bridge between workers and the management to help achieve a healthy environment of cooperation in the workplace. According to the law, it is also imperative that factories with 500 or more workers must have a qualified welfare officer. Better Work recognises the opportunity and potential in facilitating this desired level of their knowledge and skills for them to efficiently and effectively pursue their roles and responsibilities. To initiate the process, Better Work Bangladesh arranged an Industry Seminar for the Welfare Officers from its partner factories in 2017, to be followed by a series of seminars and regular training activities, which we are expected to be launched in August 2019. Better Work Bangladesh also seeks to monitor and evaluate the impact of its services in factories at different points of time with this training programme.

Duration: Two days

Our training of trainer course provides methods and tools to enable factories to deliver training programs at a consistently high quality. During this skill “coaching”, the master trainer explains and demonstrates the necessary training skills, before giving participants an opportunity to practice, giving feedback along the way. Participants “discover” the training process through group discussions, brainstorming, games, and role-plays.

After completing this training participants will:

♦ Understand the theory and practice of a trainer’s role in the factory;

♦ Explain the learning needs and styles of target participants, as well as targeted training methodologies;

♦ Demonstrate key delivery skills in 30-minute practice exercises using the Trainer’s Manual.
