Better Work engages the apparel industry in Haiti, especially in the capital Port-au-Prince and in the north-east region of the country.
Our new report – the fourteenth report to be produced by Better Work Haiti in the framework of the HOPE II legislation – provides a revealing snapshot of the industry.
For example, we learn that in 2016, total export revenues from the textile and garment industry in Haiti accounted for approximately 90 per cent of national export earnings and 10 per cent of national GDP. The apparel industry is also among the largest employers within Haiti, creating jobs for approximately 40,000 people. Most workers (some 65 to 70 per cent) are women who support several family members.
