Celebrating the people and 20 years of impact – Better Factories Cambodia
Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) began as a two-year experimental programme to monitor labour practices in Cambodia and has grown into a transformative initiative. For over 20 years, BFC in partnership with constituents has committed to improving working conditions and competitiveness of the Cambodian garment sector, ensuring support to constituents along the way. The Book of People highlights the 20 years journey of BFC, and the people behind the programme who have made BFC possible and continue to leave impactful footprints on both BFC and the garment industry in Cambodia.
20 Years in the Making
“The first chapter of the Better Work story was written in Cambodia. When Better Factories Cambodia began 20 years ago, the team – whose faces and voices you will hear in the pages of this book – could not have foreseen that they were starting what would become a global programme spanning 12 countries around the world. With a current coverage of over 550 factories and 630,000 workers, Better Factories Cambodia has come a long way. While the country still faces many challenges, the garment sector has become a key component of its growing economy.”
